Ingredients
  

For the Strawberries
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced Use ripe strawberries for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar This will sweeten the strawberries.
For the Biscuits
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Sifted for better texture.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Additional sweetness for the dough.
  • 1 tbsp baking powder For leavening.
  • 1/2 tsp salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed Keep cold for flaky biscuits.
  • 3/4 cup milk Use whole milk for richness.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract For flavor.
For the Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream Chilled for best results.
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For sweetness in whipped cream.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract For flavor in the cream.

Method
 

Prepare the Strawberries
  1. Slice the strawberries and place them in a large bowl.
  2. Sprinkle 1/4 cup granulated sugar over the strawberries.
  3. Stir gently and set aside for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Make the Biscuits
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add cold butter pieces to the flour mixture.
  4. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend until the mixture looks crumbly.
  5. Pour in the milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  6. Stir just until combined, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Drop large spoonfuls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, making six shortcakes.
  8. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 10 minutes.
Prepare the Whipped Cream
  1. In a separate bowl, pour in the cold heavy whipping cream.
  2. Add powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  3. Beat with a hand mixer until soft peaks form.
Assemble the Shortcakes
  1. Split each shortcake in half using a fork or your hands.
  2. Spoon strawberries and their juices onto the bottom half of each shortcake.
  3. Add a generous layer of whipped cream.
  4. Place the top half of the shortcake over the cream.
  5. Add more strawberries and whipped cream on top if desired.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy your creation!

Notes

For added flavor, include a splash of almond extract or lemon zest in the biscuit dough. Fresh strawberries enhance the overall taste.
